Transcript for the Web Hosting Show – Episode One!
Hello, and welcome to the first edition of the Web Hosting Show, the voice of the Web hosting world. This show is sponsored by Web Hosting Chat, the number one place to visit for Web hosting discussions. I am your geeky party host and resident Web hosting guru, Mitch Keeler.
First things first, I would like to thank everybody who is making this first show possible. A lot of folks have shown their support for what I am trying to do here, and for that I am very thankful. This show is for the Web hosting community as well as your average Web hosting user. We all want to know more about what goes on behind the scenes in the Web hosting business, and hopefully I will be your proverbial looking glass into that world.
In each show, we will cover the latest Web hosting news, the way the Web hosting world works, and most importantly we will get to answering your Web hosting questions. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or feedback on the show please feel free to leave a comment on the Web Hosting Show Web site. You can also E-mail me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com.

Mitch’s Web Hosting Thoughts
Adult Web Hosting
I want to talk about something that might scare off a lot of folks. I figure if I am going to alienate anybody, might as well do it in the first show, right? There is nothing to fear from “adult Web hosting”. Back when I was working for one of my past Web hosting employers I seemed to get asked frequently if we hosted any “adult” Web sites. Once I told them that we did, they were offended of course, and then I had a few choice four letter words thrown my way. Then came the comments about me going to hell and all that jazz.
So I want to clear something up. Just because your Web site might be hosted on the same server as an adult Web site doesn’t mean you are going to be effected by that adult traffic in any way. When you are on a shared server, you are hosted along side dozens if not hundreds Web sites. Each one having their own topics of discussion. You don’t bother them, they don’t bother you.
Think of it as living in a neighborhood with brick walls around every house. You may know you live in the same city, but you will never meet your neighbors because of the walls around you.
Most Web hosting companies will tell you what they will or won’t allow to be hosted on their servers in their acceptable use policy or terms of service. If you are really concerned about it, then I would check those places first to find out what is allowed and not allowed.
Reseller vs Real Company
Reseller Web hosting is becoming more and more popular these days. The idea of being able to start up your own mini Web hosting company and earn a return on your investment is too good of a deal to pass up for some people. There are many though that say they will not do business with a Web hosting reseller and they’d rather deal with a “real” Web host.
I say that it really depends on who the reseller is. Just like with the big companies, you have to do your homework and learn about the folks that are running the backend of the business. I have met many resellers that even out-work their bigger Web hosting counterparts. I don’t think they should be thought of as an equal to an actual Web host, but they are an alternative.
About this Show
Right now there is a big market out there for Web hosting information. There are Web hosting forums, Web hosting news sites, Web hosting help, but never have all the aspects been blended into one product. That is what I hope I can do with this show. My only background with broadcasting goes back to my old days of doing commentary for the backyard wrestling my friends and I did a few years back. Over time, I hope that this show grows into something people want to tune into. As the number of shows goes by, so will the quality and content of the shows.
I do need your help, because without you there is no show. If there are only ten people listening to this right now, then that does me no good. You have to help get the word out about the Web hosting show. Hence the reason I created the “Spread the Word!” page on the Web Hosting Show Web site. There you can find out how you can help spread the word about the Web Hosting Show. Also, if you are linking back to me let me know, and I’ll find a place to add you to the Web site. If you support me, I want to support you right back.
Your Web Hosting Questions and E-mails
Dedicated Web hosting server?
I had a guy E-mail me the other day wanting to know of a good place to get a dedicated Web hosting server. There are many places to shop around for one. Just look at a few places like BrowseHosts.com for example. The place I pointed him to though was theplanet.com. The Planet is the place the audio files for this show are hosted and I have yet to hear anything negative about their services.
“The Voice”?
I also received several E-mails last week from folks who had listened to my first two “beta” shows. They thought that me using the phrase, “the voice of the Web hosting world” sounded a ‘bit egotistical. Well, I have to disagree. True, nobody gave me that name but over time I hope to earn your respect, trust and ears at least once a week. So far I have yet to hear an equal to what I do, at least in the Web hosting world so till further notice I’ll keep on being “egotistical” I guess.
Remember, if you want to get on the show all you have to do is send me an E-mail to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll answer your Web hosting questions on next week’s show.
Web Hosting Web Site of the Week
This week’s Web Hosting Web Site of the Week is the Startup Blog. Run by a guy I’d consider a friend in the Web hosting world, Jonathan, it gives a respectable insight in what it takes to start up your own Web hosting business. It is in no way an easy thing to do, but Jonathan is not exactly lazy. Along with the Startup blog he has several other projects going on. You can read my interview with him I did a few weeks ago on Mitchelaneous. I’ll be sure to link back to the article in the transcript for this episode of the Web Hosting Show.
If you have a Web Hosting Web site that you’d like to have featured as the Web Hosting Site of the Week, let me know! Just drop me an E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll have a look.
