Register.com Reduces Domain Pricing
Web hosting provider and domain registrar Register.com has lowered the price for its single-year domain names from $35 to $30, according to a report by research and analysis firm Netcraft. The company says the new price point is not permanent, but a “limited time offer.” Register’s move comes just weeks after another large registrar and Web hosting provider, Network Solutions, started giving away free single-year domain registrations to new Web hosting customers. Network Solutions, which makes the bulk of its money from domains, charges a single-year price of $35.

Newsletters Mention The Web Hosting Show
The Web Hosting Show was recently mentioned in two of the biggest Web hosting newsletters out there today. The first was the Web Hosting Talk newsletter, which pointed back to the interview I did with Johnder Perez a few weeks ago about The Web Hosting Show’s production. Apparently Hosting Tech picked up Johnder’s work and decided to run it on their own Web sites. (Read More!)
Young Web Hosting Guru
Here, I always thought I was the hosting guy? Guess I was a little late on the trademark but this hosting guy looks to be just as impressive. I found Joshua’s blog from Jonathan Wold and I have to say I am impressed. Not just because he’s another Web hosting writer, but because he is only 15 years old. I look forward to hearing and seeing more of his work in the future as well. Check him out, and let him know The Web Hosting Show sent you there.
Joining The Web Host Industry Review
Well all the paper work is just about signed and I should be getting more details about my employment soon. The rumors are true though, I have been hired by the Web Host Industry Review as a writer. For me this is like working for the Time magazine of the Web hosting world. I’m really excited about it and I hope you will be looking for some of my articles in print and on the Web site soon. (Read More!)
Web Site Reviews
I am planning on doing a future episode of The Web Hosting Show where I can fit in around six to twelve Web site reviews. If you are a Web host with a Web site that needs help or just the average guy wanting to get a second opinion, the entire episode will be dedicated to looking at your Web site and letting you know what I think should be done different or kept the same. Send me your name, url and any other information you might want me to include on the show to mitch@mitchkeeler.com. I want to hear from Web hosts and Web hosting clients. I’ll take any Web sites you have for me to look at, so e-mail me today.
Web Hosting Book for Web Hosts
I have received many E-mails and comments on the Web hosting book I wrote, Lockergnome’s Guide to Web Hosting. So far I have yet to hear a negative review, so I am pretty happy with the result so far. One question gets asked over and over so I thought I would tackle it here. It seems like many Web hosts out there want to do bulk purchasing of the book to distribute to their customers. Will I do this for you? In most cases it is totally all right. Just drop me an E-mail and we can negotiate the details on how we can both get something out of the deal.
Web Hosting Web Site of the Week
The Web Hosting Web Site of the Week is brought to you by Banners World. Want professional looking banners but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for them? Then go check out Banners World. This week’s Web hosting Web site of the week is All Hosting Deals. Set up by Johnder Perez, it is a nice Web site to find some of the best hosting deals out there today. I haven’t gotten to get a chance to talk to him about it too much, but so far it is looking great.
Web Hosting Comments Questions and Answers
The Web hosting comments, questions and answers are brought to you by Web Host Gear. Web Host Gear is a great article resource that I must visit at least once a day to get some of the best help and how to articles on the World Wide Web.
Web Hosting Billing Problems
I got an E-mail from Glen and it seems like he had some billing problems with his current Web host. If I only had a dollar every time somebody had a billing issue. I’d be a rich man! It seems his Web hosting company didn’t give him much notice when it came to having a billing problem and shut down his Web site. Then his E-mail was down because his Web site was turned off so he had no way of contacting them with the address on record. First things first, you should always give more than one E-mail address to your Web host for them to contact you. Also make sure that the E-mail addresses that you give them are not connected to your hosting plan you have with them. Other than that, it takes a lot of crossing your fingers and luck. Some Web hosts have better billing departments than others so you might take this chance to go find a better Web host.
Should You Purchase Template Designs?
I recently received an E-mail from a fan of my Web hosting articles over at Lockergnome, Rodrigo. Glen asks if he should purchase a template design? There are many companies out there that do great work when it comes to Web site design and I wouldn’t stop anybody from using that type of service. Just make sure you read the fine print. Make sure that after you buy the template, it will not be sold anymore. Let us just say you drop $150 or more on a Web site design. You’d be pretty mad if Bob down the street ended up with the exact same look, wouldn’t you? So yes, I would say it was okay.. just check out all the facts before you hand over your bucks.
Final Web Hosting Thoughts
That is it for this week’s show! Make sure you send me your feedback, thoughts, suggestions and ideas to mitch@mitchkeeler.com or stop by The Web Hosting Show Fan Forums. Next week we will be doing more of the same. I am Mitch Keeler and you have been listening to The Web Hosting Show, the voice of the Web hosting world.
