Hello, I am Mitch Keeler and welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. The Web Hosting Show is brought to you each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions.
I am very excited to see what is in store for Web Host TV. What, you haven’t heard about it yet? Web Host TV promises to change the way you take in your Web hosting media each and every day. Others have tried to change things, but have fallen flat on their face. Web Host TV hopefully will not follow where others have failed.
I’ll have more details on it for you when there are more details to say. I will just leave you with this… remember that Web Hosting Show video I did a while back? Think about being able to see that, along with a plethora of other content all in one place. All aimed at folks in and around the Web hosting world. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it?
For the new folks out there, the Web Hosting Show is a weekly podcast where I go over some of the latest hosting headlines, give you some tips and tricks on and about the Web hosting world, help you out with your Web site design and share with you some of my own thoughts about how the hosting industry works. You can think of me and this show as the translator between Web hosting jargon and the way regular folks speak.

Lunarpages Hosting 80,000 Web Sites
Web host Lunarpages announced on Monday that it has secured over 80,000 hosted Web sites. Lunarpages says it has seen a significant increase in numbers this year, partly due to repeat customers that continue to rely on Lunarpages for both personal and business Web sites.
Mitch’s Take: Congrats are in order for Lunarpages! 80,000 hosted Web sites is by far nothing to sneeze at. Last week I had a chance to talk with Amy Armitage, the Affiliate Program Manager and Sales and Marketing Manager of Lunarpages. Talk about getting the scoop before the competition!
Check out my interview with the folks at Lunarpages Web Hosting!
Web hosting provider and domain registrar Go Daddy announced on Wednesday that it had introduced RSS feeds from its Web site. Go Daddy says the feeds provide customers with real-time access to domain auctions, news, product announcements, newly issued press releases, information on topics to be discussed on Radio Go Daddy and updates on Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons’s blog.
Mitch’s Take: I wish more Web hosting-related companies would make the movement to delivering news and information via RSS feeds. They are just one more helpful tool to get folks to return back to your Web site to get more of what you have to put out there… and no, Bob Parsons has yet to contact me about all the free plugging I seem to be doing for him here on the Web Hosting Show. The wait continues…
VitalStream Unveils Flash Video Tool
Content delivery network operator VitalStream announced on Friday that it had launched PlayStream VideoLaunch, an add-on extension for Macromedia Dreamweaver and Contribute that enables designers to add Flash video to Web sites through a drag and drop process.
Mitch’s Take: You see Flash animations just about everywhere you go Online these days. Some of them are annoying, while others I can live with. I’ve tried my hand at Flash designing a few years ago and the process was nothing close to be easy. So any tool that can make things simpler for folks out there is totally OK with me.

Web Hosting Tip of the Week
Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own personal writing space where I go one on one with you everyday with some of my Web hosting articles, random postings and updates on my current projects.
This week’s tip is all about Web hosting jargon. You know those big words that Web hosts like to toss around and the regular folks out there have no clue as to their true meaning. One thing that really gets on my nerves is when Web hosts refer to regular old Web hosting accounts as virtual hosting account or shared hosting accounts.
Why? The guy walking in off the street just wants hosting. He doesn’t know what a virtual hosting account is or a shared hosting account means. All of these names are pointing at the same kind of hosting account. The one that 99.9 percent of us use every single day. Web not just call it regular hosting?
So don’t be confused. No mater if it is virtual hosting or shared hosting, they are both your standard Web hosting account.
Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.

President Bush vs The .XXX Domain Name
This is just crazy.
The Bush administration is objecting to the creation of a .xxx domain, saying it has concerns about a virtual red-light district reserved exclusively for Internet pornography.
I just read about this (link via News.com) and have to say I am totally amazed by the whole situation. I hate to burst and bubbles there might be out there, but yes, there is dirty adult material Online. This would be the case with or without the .xxx domain name.
When we have such a hard time blocking spam, viruses, spyware and junk from our computers, you would think the government would be all for making that easier to filter. All your grandmother would have to do is set her browser to block any and all material coming from any domain name with the .xxx domain name extension. Sure you still have all the .com, .org, .info porn floating around. The main focus here is that at least you are not creating a bigger problem.

I have been going to HostNews.com a lot more here lately. They just seem to have it all when it comes to Web hosting information. They recently launched a new set of Web hosting forums that are like none other out there today.
With forum topics like “Love at HostNews” and “Press (Shameless Self Promotion)” how could you go wrong? It is a truly unique place to visit, so if you want to do me one favor this week, check it out, register and post in a few places. You never know who you might end up meeting!

The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Web Hosting
I spend a lot of time on this show plugging my own work, I figured it was time I turned the tables and plugged somebody else. Matt Alland has written up a great guide for beginners in the wild and wacky world of Web hosting. From getting a domain to Web hosting search tools, he has all the basic bases covered. It is worth reading twice, even if your not a beginner in Web hosting. Every so often, we all need to go over the basics again, don’t we?

Web Site Design Help
All of the Web Hosting Show’s design help is sponsored by BrowseHosts. BrowseHosts is the most comprehensive Web hosting directory out there today.
This week’s Web site that needs some help is Cyber Logic Host.
From first glance, I really like the fact that your navigation menu is easy to find and seems to have everything you need to have listed there. One thing about the front page I don’t like though is the “Recommended: 1024 x 768 screen resolution”. This just makes the Web page look amateurish to me. I would drop it from the page.
Some of your hosting plan graphics on the front page are kind of hard to read. I’d lose them totally if I were you, and just divide the top of the page up with some CSS. By putting all that information into graphics, you are loosing a lot of good keywords that could be picked up by search engine spiders.
I’d also like to see an “About Us” sort of page. Give me some company background, let me know where you are located and how you deal with your Web hosting servers. Are they in the room with you? Are they collocated? Are they under your desk? Never leave a Web hosting client wondering about something. Everything they want to know should be found on the Web site.
Other than that, I say it is looking pretty good so far! Keep up the good work, and let me know how things go!
Do you need some help with your Web site design? Would you like me to just let you know what it is you could do to make your Web presence that much better? Make sure you contact me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get your questions answered and your Web site reviewed on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
