Hello and welcome yet again to another edition of the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. This show is supported each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions. Taking you through a joyride of the Web hosting world, I am Mitch Keeler.
This show is all about informing both Web hosts and Web hosting clients with more information about how the wild and wacky world of Web hosting works. There are two podcasts posted each and every week. The one you are listening to right now is the Monday edition, the big show. Every Thursday I try to get a smaller segment uploaded for your enjoyment as well. If you want any more information about anything you heard on this episode, just check out WebHostingShow.com.
There were a lot of exciting things going on this week for the Web Hosting Show. I got a new headset if you haven’t heard the difference yet. It is a Plantronics DSP 500 and I just love it. It is giving me much better sound quality, and since it is a headset, I no longer have to worry about sounding like I am in a big empty room. I told you as this show progressed, so would the quality.
Also, this Thursday will be the launch of the Web Hosting Show Video Tutorials. I hope you come back to check that out, because I think it’ll be yet another helpful service we can provide. Some companies out there are charging hundreds of dollars for flash/video tutorials like this. What am I asking from you? I just want you to tune in each and every week.
If you have something to say or have a question to ask, I am an easy man to get ahold of. All you have to do is drop me an E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com.

Hosting.com Supporting New Orleans Site
Web hosting provider Hosting.com announced on Monday it has supported and participated in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, providing support for the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center Web site following the disaster.
Mitch’s Take: Here is just one more Web hosting company doing what they can to help the poor victims down there effected by the recent hurricane. I’ve given Hosting.com a hard time in the past, but I have to look past that and give them two thumbs up for the effort they have put forth with this so far. Good job.
BulkRegister Launches Domain Tool
Internet registrar BulkRegister announced on Monday it has launched a new domain management tool designed to provide a flexible solution for managing large numbers of domains.
Mitch’s Take: BulkRegister and other companies are really playing “catch up” when it comes to Go Daddy’s lead in the domain name market right now. Go Daddy is on the top of the mountain right now, and I think it will take more than a domain name tool to knock them down a few steps on the proverbial ladder. I am always happy to see companies fighting it out though, because the more they fight, the better it is for all of us.
Host Color Doubles Web Hosting Space
Web hosting provider Host Color announced on Wednesday it has doubled the Web space of all its new Mega Pack accounts to 2G.
Mitch’s Take: Mega package will also be available for customers who are renewing and upgrading their accounts. Host Color hopes to also draw new customers through its continuing one dollar domain registration promotion and its secure shell access.

Web Hosting Tip of the Week
Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own tech news and views Web site, where I tell you what I think about some of the new things coming out of the technology world.
This week’s Web hosting tip of the week is about server uptime promises and your Web hosting company. A few years ago, being able to say you had “99.9 Uptime” would have been very impressive. These days you need to understand that most of the time it is looked at as nothing more than a sales gimmick. The fact of the matter is, true.. the uptime numbers might be close to 99.9 percent. Ask them to prove it to you though. Those companies that take pride in the fact they have true 99.9 percent uptime will be more than happy to show you how they can prove it. Anybody else? Well, they aren’t worth your time anyways.
So Web hosts, you had better be able to prove your numbers. Web hosting clients, you had better check all the facts you can and not get sucked into any sales gimmicks.
Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Deals and Steals
The Web Hosting Show’s Hosting Deals and Steals are brought to you each and every week by AllHostingDeals.com. AllHostingDeals.com is your number one place to find Web hosting offers too good to be true.
This week’s deal is from the kind folks over at LunarPages.com. They are offering:
PHP web hosting with 3000 MB of disk space, 40 GB of data transfer, unlimited e-mail accounts, PHP, Python and Perl, ASP, JSP and Servlets, FrontPage Extensions, Fantastico Script Library, 30-day money back guarantee, online control panel and so much more!
What does all that cost? $7.95 is the asking price, and it is a price worth getting. After talking with some of the folks over at LunarPages.com a few months ago for one of our past interviews, they really are some good folks to work with.
Have a Web hosting deal or offer that is too good to be true? E-mail me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll tell the folks about it on the next Web Hosting Show podcast.

Building an Outsourcing Support Business
I guess you could call this the “forum thread of the week” for a lack of a better name. This topic I found over at Web Hosting Chat really got me to thinking though. Here is what they had to say:
Is web hosting tech support a solid biz ??
Hello everyone
I just needed comments / suggestions /advice on
1.Is web hosting tech support a solid biz ?
2.How to increase sales in this domain through the internet for small tech support companies.
Thanks
Now in my response, I told him that his biggest battle would be in building up a reputation inside the Web hosting industry as being a good, solid and reliable solution when it comes to outsourced Web hosting support. It is the same battle everybody else in the Web hosting world is in right now really. Just about every Web host or Web hosting Web site is in a battle to prove that they know what they are talking about and that you can trust what they say. Now what is the easiest way to build up that trust? I’m afraid to say I don’t know an easy way to get it done.
Your best bet is to just stick with it for a long time. Over time as other Web hosts or Web hosting Web sites fade, and you are still around, you will be proving the fact that you at least can stand the test of time.
cPanel “X Theme” is Torture
I hate, I loathe, I despise the “X Theme” for cPanel. Now for anybody out there that has dealt with cPanel for the past few years, you probably remember the big switch from the “Blue Lagoon” theme to the stupid “X Theme”. It was and still is a pain in the butt. cPanel’s “X Theme” is just a pile of unorganized icons and pretty buttons.
Now I think it is safe to let you know that I am working on a new document to help both new and old Web hosting clients to tame the “X Theme” way of doing things. Right now I am not sure if I will release the finished product as another eBook, a series of articles, or maybe even a podcast. What I need from you are some of your own thoughts and horror stories with the “X Theme” inside of cPanel. Drop me an E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com, let me know what you think and I might include your comments in the finished work.
Also let me know which you would rather see, an eBook, series of articles, podcast.. heck I might do all of them.
No More Job Outsourcing!
This comes from a press release put out by the folks at 8 to Infinity:
8 to Infinity is doing the reverse of the outsourcing trend by hiring more in house support staff to enhance support for its estimated 50 000 users. The support staff are given On Job Training as well as being send for various professional certification courses to enhance their service levels and provide more varied support for their clients.
Now are you ready for the kicker here? This Web hosting company is located in Singapore. Now not to bash the efforts they are putting forth, I am really happy to hear about it. I just wish more American companies would follow the lead of 8 to Infinity. There is a time and a place for outsourced Web hosting support. If you want to have somebody on call in the middle of the night, it is much easier to have a guy in India working your night time hours than asking somebody here to stay up all night long. Why? Well, it is daytime in India when it is night time here.
When Web hosts start outsourcing all the support they do out to cheaper “support farms” in other companies, that is when I put my foot down. Why? Just take a look at any Web hosting forum out there. There are dozens of unemployed system administrators and level one support folks looking for jobs to stay afloat. Why aren’t they getting hired? It is because outsourcing support is much more “cost efficient”. In other words, it is cheaper.
Automatic Web Site Creation – Acorn Rack
There is a new Web hosting company out there, and its name is Acorn Rack. Now what makes them any different than the other million Web hosting options you might have out there today? They promise you, “Automatic Web Site Creation”. Here is some more information on the “about us” part of their Web site:
Acorn Rack gives you the chance to build you very own web site, for free where everything is initially constructed. You can then enhance those foundations, and flourish your site into a state of the art internet application.
You are able to edit every page you see* through the Admin CP, from the layout, down to the colors. Accept members, assign them roles, and watch your site take off. Talk to your members on the forums, ask them their opinion via the voting section, and if someone disobeys your rules, you can suspend, or delete them from your site.
It sounds like it is totally free, but I haven’t had the time to check it out for myself just yet. So feel free to sign up, test it out, then drop me an E-mail and let me know how you like it.
Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you would like to hear me cover on the Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Site Design Help
All of the Web Hosting Show’s design help is sponsored by BrowseHosts. BrowseHosts is the most comprehensive Web hosting directory out there today.
This week’s Web site that needs some help is the web master directory FindFull.com.
The first thing that I have to say that I really like is that the Web site layout is very simple and to the point. You aren’t distracting me with a lot of things that do not matter, and for that I have to thank you.
Now on the bad side, you had a few broken links. Since the Web site is new though, I can not hold too much against you for that. Your link colors seem to change from Web page to Web page as well. If it were me, I’d go in and make sure they are all one color in at least the “body” of the Web site pages. You don’t want to confuse folks with too many colors for links and all that. If people have to wonder too much about how to navigate the Web site, they will not be staying there too long at all.
Other than that though, it looks like a good start, a good domain name.. so I wish the folks at FindFull.com all the success in the world.
Do you need some help with your Web site design? Would you like me to just let you know what it is you could do to make your Web presence that much better? Make sure you contact me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get your questions answered and your Web site reviewed on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.

The Web hosting Web site of the week is brought to you by Banners World. Banners World is the number one place to visit to get all your Web site graphics, banners and designs done.

TheSiteWizard.com gives you a lot of helpful tools when it comes to editing things here and there on your Web site.
If you are looking for ways of improving your Web site, but you don’t know where to start, I would check out this Web site. I often go there just to see what ideas or resources are out there. So go check out TheSiteWizard.com and let them know that the Web Hosting Show sent you there.
