Hello and welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. This show is supported each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions.
You can use your new PlayStation Portable firmware to listen to the Web Hosting Show! I posted the instructions on how to do so on the Web Hosting Show’s Web site earlier this week. So if you want to know how, just check out the show notes for the link. Just one more way to listen to the number one hosting podcast across the nation.
Now for those of you who haven’t listened before, this show is all about grabbing the Web hosting industry by it’s ankles, turning it upside down, and shaking it till all the good stuff falls out. I’m not a big fan of traditional methods of news and help, so hopefully you’ll enjoy this different aspect of hosting information mixed with a little ‘bit of fun along the way.
Want to get my attention? Just shoot me over and E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com with all your feedback, thoughts, suggestions and comments and I’ll be sure to address them either offline or right here on this very podcast.
Web Hosting Headlines
The Web hosting news and headlines are brought to you by Web Host Magazine & Buyer’s Guide. The Web Host Magazine & Buyer’s Guide is the place to go to get all the latest Web hosting news from around the globe.
GoDaddy.com was hit with a denial-of-service attack Wednesday morning, prompting 600,000 of its customers’ hosted Web sites to go dark for roughly an hour. GoDaddy, which also is a domain registrar and reseller, said e-mail service was also disrupted for some of its 4 million customers.
Mitch’s Take: Well, I’ll be telling you a little more about my own experiences with GoDaddy’s hosting later on in the show. All I have to say about this, is it was bound to happen sooner or later. GoDaddy does have a good track record of not going down that often though. That is probably one of the many reasons why it is number one.
December Editors’ Choice Awards from WHM
The Web Host Magazine & Buyer’s Guide Editors’ Choice Award is a once a month event where we award Web Host industry companies for excellence above and beyond that of their peers.
Mitch’s Take: This month’s picks are: Peak 10, Expinion.net, Ratemyhost.com/, and WebReference.com. Congrats to all four companies!
ICANN Delays .xxx Domain Approval
Final approval for the .xxx domain has been put on hold after it was taken off the agenda at the ICANN meetings currently being held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Mitch’s Take: As much as I don’t like making predictions in the Web hosting market, I will bet money on the fact that .xxx will never see the light of day. Now if that is a good thing or a bad thing, I’ll leave that all up to you.
Do you have some Web hosting news? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Tip of the Week
Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own tech news and views Web site, where I tell you what I think about some of the new things coming out of the technology world.
Is GoDaddy’s Shared Hosting any good?
I thought I’d try them out, because I had heard both good and bad things about them. Overall, it has been an up and down road with them. I haven’t had any uptime problems with them, which is a good thing. The bad thing is that the control panel your hosting account comes with sucks. As somebody who is used to seeing cPanel’s features, I feel like the product that GoDaddy gives is dumbed down.
So as far as stability goes so far, I’d give them a four out of five. As far as features? I’d give them maybe a star and half. Good, but not the best hosting option out there today.
Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Deals and Steals
The Web Hosting Show’s Hosting Deals and Steals are brought to you each and every week by AllHostingDeals.com. AllHostingDeals.com is your number one place to find Web hosting offers too good to be true.
This week’s hosting deal comes from HostLegal.com.
HostLegal.com launched a pricing template designed to help new and veteran resellers determine how much they should be charging for their hosting plans in order to break even but more importantly – make a profit. I’ve had a look at what it is they are offering, and I have to say it is the best option out there today if you want to make this work as painless as possible.
The folks over at HostLegal.com have also got a special deal for Web Hosting Show listeners. You can get 20% off of your order if you use our special Web Hosting Show coupon code. I’ll be giving you that in the audio edition of today’s show.
I want to thank the folks at HostLegal.com for passing the savings onto the Web Hosting Show’s loyal listeners.
Have a Web hosting deal or offer that is too good to be true? E-mail me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll tell the folks about it on the next Web Hosting Show podcast.

Free File Hosting
Do you like to use free places to host your big files here and there? Then boy, do I have a list for you.
A Big Collection of Free File Hosting
There are over 50 places to choose from, so you have no reason not to upload that free and legal big file you wanted to share with your friends and family. The disk space on these things go anywhere from 10MB to 2GB, so give ‘em a shot and let me know which one is your favorite.
Web Hosting Geek’s New Groove
The Web Hosting Geek blog has gotten a new look since the last time we visited it. Some of you might remember that it was one of my Web hosting Web sites of the week a few months ago. I like the new look for the Web site, they did a great job with the redesign of everything. There is also a lot more content coming out of there each and every day. Some of the posts could be made a little more personal, but past that I have to say it is one of the few and one of the best Web hosting resources out there today.
So if it has been a while since your last visit, go check them out at whgeek.com.
It’s Survey Time!
You may have seen the survey links on the Web Hosting Show’s Web site a few times. You might have even heard my mention the survey on the show. Now what I need from each and every one of you is for you to fill out the survey. I know these things are never too much fun, but this is information I need so that I can go forward with the production of this show. I need to know who you are, what you like and what you need from this Web hosting podcast. So if you haven’t done it yet, please take the survey. Just think of it as your Christmas present for me.
Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you would like to hear me cover on the Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Web Site of the Week
The Web hosting Web site of the week is brought to you by Banners World. Banners World is the number one place to visit to get all your Web site graphics, banners and designs done.
Well there was a tie this week for the Web hosting Web site of the week, so think of this as your early Christmas two for one deal.
The Web hosting Web site of the week is WebWizGuide.com.
It doesn’t get much better than WebWizGuide.com.
This site covers many aspects of web site design and development and has something for everyone, from those planning to build their first web site to experienced web site developers.
They have loads of news and information for beginner all the way to expect Web developers. The best thing about this resource is that it is totally free. So check them out at WebWizGuide.com and let them know that the Web Hosting Show sent you there.
Our second Web hosting Web site of the week is 168 Forum’s Site Speed Tool.
This is an odd looking tool that allows you to check the speed of your Web site. The reason I call it odd is that the graphics and layout aren’t exactly Web 2.0 on this thing. It looks more like Web 0.5, but it still works, so that is all I care about. So go ahead and give it a shot as well, you can find the link for it on the show notes for this episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Do you have a Web site that deserves to be the next Web hosting Web site of the week? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.
