SWsoft Releases Version 2.0 Upgrade Of Free Website Builder

SWsoft, a recognized leader in server automation and virtualization software, today announced the availability of SiteBuilder 2.0 for Windows, an upgraded release of the next generation, browser-based application designed to quickly and easily create and edit websites. The new version 2.0 adds ecommerce and blog capabilities, plan and site management, several new modules and reseller support for the fastest-growing hosting platform. First announced in September 2005, the SiteBuilder for Windows promotion will last through September 30, 2006.

Mitch’s Take: SWsoft’s SiteBuilder tool is one of the best the Web hosting industry has to offer. I like to see that they are keeping it up to date and adding more and more features along the way.

Netgo Hosting Terrorist Content

According to reports by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a 19-year-old Winnipeg man is trying to clear his name after his Netgo Web Hosting business unknowingly hosted al-Qaeda terrorist related content.

Mitch’s Take: Well, taking the terrorism aspect out of the picture of the moment, this just proves that Web hosts should always pay attention to the content they are hosting. Keeping records on every Web site is almost impossible, but you never know when you might get hit like this or with something else of this nature.

Web Host AIT Leading Suit Against Google

Web hosting provider AIT said on Thursday that it had taken over as the lead plaintiff in a class action lawsuit that accuses Google of breach of contract and unfair business practices. AIT’s motion was filed on Wednesday in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. AIT takes over as lead plaintiff from ClickDefense, which filed suit on June 24, 2005.

Mitch’s Take: If they can prove the case, I say more power to AIT. In my opinion this will be a hard case to fight. You will have to prove that these clicks were not real. Who is right? Who is wrong? I guess we’ll have to see what comes of the case.

Web Hosting Tip of the Week

Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own tech news and views Web site, where I tell you what I think about some of the new things coming out of the technology world.

This week’s tip is all about .htaccess and doing redirets from one Web page to another. Now I’ll be the first to say that I don’t exactly remember everything I say or everything I write. Thankfully though, as useful as some of my articles are to the public, they are even more useful to me. I needed to do a little Web page redirection here and there and found an article I wrote on the matter.

More Than One Way to Redirect

So I got my redirects done, 301 style since that is the kind search engines like the best, and everything is OK in the world again.

Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.

Hyphenated Domains - Good or Bad?

Many moons ago, I wrote about how I thought that the use of hyphenated domains was a bad idea. Well, just last week I got my first debater on the topic, and I do have to say she had a lot of good things to say. You can check out the link over at Lockergnome’s Web Developers to see her side of the story.

Think of ten of your favorite Web sites. Do any of them have hyphenated domain names? No. The first reason is, is that hyphenated domain names are really hard for folks to remember. When picking a good domain name, you want to find something short, relevant, and with a few keywords. Sure, there are a few companies that break that rule, take Amazon.com for an example.

For the rest of us out there though, the previously mentioned rules are good ones to follow. You want people to be able to associate your domain name with your Web site quickly. hyphenated domain names just make things too difficult. Where does the hyphen go? Did it have one, or were you just thinking that it did? If they the visitor types in the domain name without the hyphen, will they be taken to a competitor’s Web site? These are all things you should keep in mind.

So next time you are out domain name hunting, do yourself a favor and stay away from getting a hyphenated domain name. They are bad news!

Holiday Hosting Wish List

On the Web Hosting Show Thursday Special this week I’ll be letting you all know what is on my wish list this holiday season. Will it be a new pair of socks? How about my two front teeth? No, I think you should know by now it will be related directly to what I’d like to see the Web hosting world offer to me and all of you listening out there today. So be sure to come back to WebHostingShow.com on Thursday to check that out.

Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you would like to hear me cover on the Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.

Web Site Design Help, Support and Ideas

All of the Web Hosting Show’s design help is sponsored by BrowseHosts. BrowseHosts is the most comprehensive Web hosting directory out there today.

This week’s Web site that needs some help is DirectoryPixels.com.

Here we have your general directory Web site. The thing that I notice right off the bat that is a little diffrent, it is looks like you are going down the Million Dollar Homepage route for your advertising. I’d be intrested in seeing how that works out for you in the future.

As far as loading time goes, you are good there. It is quick to load, and I’m not left waiting for anything. The color choices are nice as well. The only problem I can see is I’m not sure why this Web site is any better than the dozens of other directory Web sites out there today. You aren’t doing a good enough on selling me on the idea of why I should pay more attention to your directory, compared to any other Web site directory that is out there today.

So work on your focus, and I think you will have one heck of a nice experiance to deliver to any lucky visitor that you might receive.

Do you need some help with your Web site design? Would you like me to just let you know what it is you could do to make your Web presence that much better? Make sure you contact me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get your questions answered and your Web site reviewed on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.

Web Hosting Web Site of the Week

The Web hosting Web site of the week is brought to you by Banners World. Banners World is the number one place to visit to get all your Web site graphics, banners and designs done.

Where have all the Web hosting Web site gone? I need your help. Drop me an E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and let me know what your favorite Web hosting related Web sites are. After doing this show for almost a year now, I think my suggestions list might be running a little slim. When I go out and search for good Web hosting resources, all I get back are link farms and Web sites run by what look to be spammers.

So this is your homework for the next week, let me know what your favorite Web hosting-related resources on the Web are.

Do you have a Web site that deserves to be the next Web hosting Web site of the week? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.
