Hello I am the mother loved, and doctor approved hosting guru of choice, Mitch Keeler. Welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. This show is supported each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions.
Since we are going through the whole end of 2005, start of 2006 thing I thought I’d let you know how many of you are actually out there week after week. With this show’s one year anniversary coming next month, I am proud to say that there are around/about 400 or so of you downloading this show and listening every week. Many thanks to you all, and hopefully 2006 will see those numbers double at least.
For that person who might be number 401 and isn’t too sure about what is going on, let me tell you what this show is all about. I am here to bring you the best the Web hosting industry has to offer. We have news, we have help, I’d even hire a few guys wearing funny hats if it would make you happy. This show’s message since day one and going through 2006 is to make the Web hosting world less intimidating. I want to make it into something everybody can enjoy and get use out of.
Want to get my attention? Just shoot me over and E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com with all your feedback, thoughts, suggestions and comments and I’ll be sure to address them either offline or right here on this very podcast.

BrowseHosts Offers Advertising Bonus, Celebrates Network Growth Milestone
BrowseHosts.com, an interactive pay-per-click web hosting directory and community forum, announced today that it is offering new advertisers a $15 bonus on pay-per-click listings. The company is also celebrating a milestone on its network of showing more than 1 million pay-per-click listing impressions each month.
Mitch’s Take: BrowseHosts offers a great service out there to the Web hosting world. I can say from experience that Pinny and the gang know what they are doing, and you can see some real results by signing up either as an advertiser with them or as an ad displayer. They don’t give you the punch the monkey win an iPod junk. They give you real links back to real Web hosting companies. If your interested, sign up today!
Interland Completes Acquisition Of Web.com Assets
Interland, a leading provider of websites and online services for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), today announced that it has completed its asset acquisition from Web Internet, LLC (Web.com) and Web Service Company Inc. Included in the assets are the domain name Web.com, web hosting business comprised of approximately 9,000 subscribers, accredited registrar business and trademark rights.
Mitch’s Take: Interland paid $4.8 million in cash for all of this stuff, and I just hope that they really do something with it. Sure, a domain name can take you a long way, but you also need some content and services worth sticking around for once that deal is done.
Web Host 1 and 1 Upgrades Hosting Plans
Web hosting provider 1 and 1 Internet announced on Monday that it would again increase the standards features of its Web hosting packages while maintaining current price points. The move, part of a valu-added campaign kicked off in September, comes just weeks after the company upgraded the same plans, again without a corresponding increase in prices.
Mitch’s Take: 1 and 1 really does seem to be picking up steam in the world of Web hosting. I think in the past few weeks they might have even broken GoDaddy’s record of the number of times I’ve mentioned them on this show. You can’t go wrong when you offer your customers a better deal, so my two freaky thumbs up this week go up for 1 and 1.
Do you have some Web hosting news? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Tip of the Week
Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own tech news and views Web site, where I tell you what I think about some of the new things coming out of the technology world.
I have two resources for you this week that could fit into the design category. Some of these URLs might be a little long and confusing so make sure you check out the show notes for this episode of the Web Hosting Show to get more information.
The first is FamFamFam.com’s Silk Icons. Now we have all dealt with that layout where we just couldn’t find or create the right icons or graphics we had in mind. That is where this Web site comes into play. They have 700 icons that you can use for free. Deals just don’t get any better than that.
The second resource for all you designers out there is a list I found of some of the best free stock photo galleries there are Online. This once again plays into the whole needing something but can’t find it category. There are dozens of Web sites listed, so inside one of them you should be able to find that graphic of a server you have always dreamed of finding.
Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Hosting Deals and Steals
The Web Hosting Show’s Hosting Deals and Steals are brought to you each and every week by AllHostingDeals.com. AllHostingDeals.com is your number one place to find Web hosting offers too good to be true.
Instead of sharing with you a deal I found this week, I thought I would let you know how to find one of your own.
One of the best places to search for deals Online is FindMyHost.com. They are a trusted name inside the Web hosting industry and they have a wide selection of Web hosts to choose from.
Another resource to check out would be Web Host Magazine and Buyers Guide’s Host Search. While we are on the subject of trusted Web hosting resources, they don’t get much better than WHM. With this tool you also have more options as to what you want exactly in a Web hosting account.
The last resource I want to share with you today is FindMyHosting.com. Even though they won’t return my E-mails, I have to say they are my favorite “deal searching” resource Online. The reason I like them so much is they take that extra step to act as a moderator in conflicts between Web hosts and Web hosting clients.
Have a Web hosting deal or offer that is too good to be true? E-mail me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll tell the folks about it on the next Web Hosting Show podcast.

2006 Web Hosting Resolutions
Well it is that time of the year again, the time that we all start making lists of habits we are going to stop or making predictions about what will happen in the year to come. Well, since Web hosting is what I do best I thought I’d come up with a list of some of my own 2006 predictions for the wild and wacky world of Web hosting.
As I look into my crystal ball here, I see that Yahoo! Small Business will buy out a major Web hosting company. Which one will it be? 1 and 1 Internet might be a nice asset to have. I think Yahoo! will be paying more attention to the Web hosting world in 2006 and they will be seeing how they can get the biggest part of the proverbial pie.
GoDaddy.com will put on it’s own football game to run it’s Super Bowl ad on next year. The game will be made up of CEOs from inside the Web hosting world. Okay, so a football game might be a little far fetched (pardon the pun) but I do see GoDaddy.com raising a big stink about the Super Bowl ad again this year. Any PR is good PR.
Your Web hosting will not get any cheaper in 2006! Sorry, I hate to be the one to break the news to you but it is true. Web hosting is about at that point that it can’t afford to be any cheaper. So how are the big shots going to get you to sign up with them? The year of 2006 will be all about the Web hosting services and extras.
Ping! Zine will become the Web hosting magazine of choice in 2006! Well, in my opinion they already are.
WHIR TV will become less boring! I’m sorry, I don’t like taking shots at people too often but WHIR TV was a great idea that went south very quickly. Short of putting Anastasia Tubanos in a bikini, I don’t know what could save this show. Showing that I am not a totally spoiled sport, I’d be more than willing to make a few suggestions here and there if anybody at the Web Host Industry Review is interested in hearing more of my thoughts.
So what were your hosting-related New Year’s resolutions this year? Let me know about them and I’ll be sure to include the best of the best on next week’s show.
Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you would like to hear me cover on the Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Web Site Design Help, Support and Ideas
All of the Web Hosting Show’s design help is sponsored by BrowseHosts. BrowseHosts is the most comprehensive Web hosting directory out there today.
This week’s Web site that needs some help is A1WHS.com.
It has been a while since I reviewed a Web host’s Web site. This Web site looks about average when you compare it to what else is out there in the Web hosting industry. First things first, I would say drop the flash image at the top. It’s nothing more than “eye candy” and it doesn’t really serve a purpose. It is just making the Web site slower to load for computers with slower connections.
Some of your graphics are a little ruff as well. They are a little hard to read. You might try smoothing out some of the text on the graphics, or just getting rid of the graphics all together. That much is up to you.
Other than that, it looks like a great company you have there and I wish you all the luck in the future.
Do you need some help with your Web site design? Would you like me to just let you know what it is you could do to make your Web presence that much better? Make sure you contact me at mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get your questions answered and your Web site reviewed on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.
Hosting Winners and Losers
The Web hosting winners and losers for the week are brought to you by Lockergnome’s Guide to Web Hosting. Lockergnome’s Guide to Web Hosting is the best e-book out there covering the Web hosting world from head to toe.
This week’s winner of the week is BrowseHosts.com.
So what makes BrowseHosts.com so special this week? Well the latest news from the Hosting Headlines earlier in the show helps out a lot. I also feel like they are a resource that not enough people in the Web hosting world pay attention to. Inside the Web hosting industry you get a lot of Web sites that are filled with nothing but crap. I’m happy to say that BrowseHosts.com breaks that mold.
This week’s biggest loser is WebHostingTalk.com
I haven’t had time to talk about this on the podcast since it happened, so I figured I’d address it now. Did you hear about WebHostingTalk.com getting sold yet again? If WebHostingTalk.com is the biggest player in the Web hosting forum wars, why is it that nobody wants to keep them? I hope Stoddard Hill Capital has better luck than others have had with it.
Do you have a hot tip to share on who might be the next week’s winner or loser of the week? Make sure you drop me an E-mail and let me know about who they are and what they did.
