Web Host AuctionServices Wins Award

AuctionServices.com, a Web hosting provider for auction firms, announced it was recently recognized by the Virginia Auctioneers Association for outstanding contributions and support in 2005. The award was presented at the organization’s annual convention held in Richmond, Virginia last Saturday.

Mitch’s Take: Nobody out there can say that getting awards is ever a bad thing. However I know nothing really about auctions so let me stick the Web hosting side of things. This just goes to show you what I have been saying for a while now. Specialized Web hosting solutions get attention. If I had my way, I’d like to see more specialized services roll out. It would also be nice to see the big players in the Web hosting industry branch off into specialized hosting services.

Web Host DataPipe Sponsors NerdTV

Managed Web hosting and security services provider DataPipe announced on Monday it has joined PBS.org to help deliver the online TV series, NerdTV.

Mitch’s Take: For those of you who might not know about NerdTV, it has weekly one-hour interviews with a well-known movers and shakers from the tech world. I am happy to see a Web host get behind some of this new programing available out there today. Podcasts and Videocasts are not going away anytime soon. These are great new ways of finding specialized content you want to hear for little to no price at all.

SJR Hosting Revamps Web Hosting

Wisconsin based Web hosting provider SJR Hosting announced on Monday it has revamped its entire hosting structure, taking steps that include increasing the resources provided in its Web hosting plans, remodeling its support department and enhancing its server technology and hardware.

Mitch’s Take: I know a few Web hosts who could do with a little spring cleaning on their Web hosting services. Some of the stuff SJR is doing includes free marketing credits, Web site and security monitoring, Web site load balancing and an increase to the number of domains allowed per hosting package.

Web Host IPower Updates iPage Tool

Web hosting provider IPOWER announced on Tuesday it has released version 2 of its iPage software, designed for small businesses seeking an all-in-one solution for purchasing, creating, hosting, marketing and managing their Web sites.

Mitch’s Take: I mentioned this story on my blog last week, but I’ll go ahead and cover it a little further here. I like the idea of Web hosting bundles, and IPOWER’s way of doing it makes it very easy for even the most novice Web hosting customers to understand. Making the world of Web hosting easier is how you will get a few more client sign ups than your competitors.

Web Host RegisterFly Adds Free Blogs

Domain registrar and Web hosting provider RegisterFly.com announced on Wednesday it would begin offering a free blog with each new domain registration.

Mitch’s Take: I have a feeling RegisterFly is doing this because GoDaddy did it a few weeks back. The industry dinosaurs are finally waking up to the fact that making blogging easier will win you over with the public. Everybody has something to say, so why not make it easier for them to do so?

Web Host BroadSpire Adds New Plans

Web hosting provider Broadspire announced last week that it had launched a new line of e-commerce solutions.

Mitch’s Take: So what are these solutions they speak of? Priced from $39.95 to $99.95 per month, the solutions include a domain name, control panel, Web hosting, merchandising tools, technical support, shopping cart features and developer tools. That is a lot of money to lay down for hosting services, so before you jump in on this one you might look for some reviews of how good the service really is.

Web Host eHosting.ca Launches Contest

Canadian Web hosting provider eHosting.ca said this week that it had launched its second Valentine’s Day contest.

Mitch’s Take: What do you have to do? In 100 words or less, write about “What will turn you on this Valentine’s Day”. Personally I love that sweet data center smell in the morning, but hey… what tickles my fancy might not tickle yours. This is a great idea for a contest, and I wish eHosting.ca good luck with it.

Comodo Launches Security Tool

Internet security provider Comodo announced on Wednesday it has made available its Secure and Authentic Financial Engagements solution for online financial institutions.

Mitch’s Take: This is all about fighting Online fraud, which is quickly becoming a real threat out there. As more folks come Online, you are going to have more criminals trying to make a quick and easy buck. The best offense is a good defense, so thanks to Comodo doing what is right when it comes to fighting these threats.

X9 Hosting Adds Phone Support

Web hosting provider X9 Hosting said on Wednesday that it had upgraded its support center with the addition of phone support.

Mitch’s Take: Wow, phone support!? I sometimes don’t really understand why some folks run with a press release or put a press release out. It is a good way to get yourself in the news, so I can’t say too many bad things about it. This Thursday I’ll be giving away three tips Web hosts (or any Online business) can use to get attention. I’ll give you a hint on one of them, it has to do with press releases!

HostedToday Gives Free Month

Web hosting provider HostedToday.com announced on Friday it is offering a new promotion that offers all new customers their first month for free when they sign up for any hosting plan.

Mitch’s Take: Another free hosting promotion, this one is only for a month though. I can’t take anything away from it, because this is sometimes the best way to take services for a test drive. So go give HostedToday a look and see if they are worth your Web hosting bottom dollar.
