Hello I am the Web hosting media rock star, Mitch Keeler, and welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. This show is supported each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions.

I got my survey results in last week (the one I asked you to fill out a few months ago) and I got some interesting responses. One of the more interesting ones was somebody who said that I use too many “bad” words. I don’t think I do. I mean, I might toss in the occasional “damn” but some other podcasts out there are much worse. Sometimes I get a little too passionate about a topic, and if I get a little too out there, I apologize. I can promise you though, that you will not hear anything any more offensive than “damn” here on the Web Hosting Show.

Want to tell me what words you don’t want me to use? Just shoot me over and E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com with all your feedback, thoughts, suggestions and comments and I’ll be sure to address them either offline or right here on this very podcast.

Web Hosting Headlines

The Web hosting news and headlines are brought to you by Web Host Magazine & Buyer’s Guide. The Web Host Magazine & Buyer’s Guide is the place to go to get all the latest Web hosting news from around the globe.

The Planet Announces Record Sales Results For 2005

The Planet today announced that 2005 financial results were the best in the company’s history and the outlook for 2006 is bright. Revenues grew by 60 percent in 2005, brought on by a record sales year and a commitment to continuous customer service initiatives.

Mitch’s Take: Web hosting is an ever growing market. You know how most people say that if there was a nuclear war, that only the cockroaches would survive? Well, I think the Web hosts might stay around as well. No mater how the world is doing, people will always want to put out a Web site about something.

Web Host Host Gator at 200,000 Names

Web hosting provider Host Gator announced on Tuesday that it now hosts more than 200,000 domains and had launched the “Extreme Web Makeover” promotion to celebrate the milestone.

Mitch’s Take: For Host Gator, this is defiantly something to celebrate! 200,000 domains is a heck of a lot of Web sites for one Web host to manage daily. Congrats to them, and hopefully they can continue to provide great customer service to they clients they serve.

Web Hosting Show Celebrates Birthday Next Week!

Next week will be the one year birthday for the World’s number one Web hosting podcast, the Web Hosting Show. Podcast 50 of the show will also bring the announcement of the winner of the ongoing Web Hosting Show contest.

Mitch’s Take: Ok, I just tossed this one in for fun. It is correct though, next week will be podcast number 50 and the one year milestone for me, the Web Hosting Show and you. I hope you tune in next week to see what is going on and to find out who won that free Web hosting, domain name and BrowseHosts.com credit.

Do you have some Web hosting news? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.

Web Hosting Tip of the Week

Every so often you just need a quick nugget of Web hosting knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you by Mitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own tech news and views Web site, where I tell you what I think about some of the new things coming out of the technology world.

Would you link to search more than one Web hosting Web site at a time? Well thanks to Rollyo, you can. Now Rollyo offers lots of different types of searches, but the one you want to use is the one I made a few months back. Rollyo’s Web Hosting Search is easy to use. Just type in what you are searching for and hit “search”. You will be searching webhostingshow.com, thewhir.com, webhostmagazine.com and hostsearch.com. Let me know what you think, and who knows? I might even add a few Web sites to the search.

Do you have a Web hosting tip you’d like to share? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and who knows? It could be included on the very next edition of the Web Hosting Show.

All of my Web hosting thoughts, views and ideas are brought to you by Data Center Talk. Data Center Talk is the best set of forums on the Earth about the world of Web hosting data centers.

Customer Service Help for Hosts and Clients

“I’m having problems with my account, if you don’t get it fixed I am going to sue you and take my business somewhere else! You have an hour to get this problem fixed, or else!”

Now I know most folks would want to tell this person off, but lets think on how we can make that customer service relation better. You have to remember when working customer support, you have to have the temper level of Gandhi. You just can’t let insults or bad language scare you.

First you need to find out what the problem is that needs to be fixed. Now this could be anything at all, so be ready to address any problem that might come up. Also, you might talk with a few other members of your support team to see if they have addressed such an issue. If so, then they might help you get it fixed faster.

Second, you have to try to calm down the customer. Let them know that you have found or see the problem and you are working on getting it fixed as soon as possible. You might relate that you have been through such a problem if you have.

The third step is all about finding a resolution or setting a resolution timeframe. Let the customer know what is being done and when they can expect to see the results. Remember, time is money! The faster you can get the problem resolved, the better the customer is going to feel about the entire situation.

Now to the Web hosting customers out there who might be listening, I have a few tips for you as well.

Remember that tech support folks are worked pretty hard (at least I know I was). Try to be direct with your comments and questions, and leave out anything that doesn’t really matter. Also make sure you have all the details about your account that you might need, so you don’t have to hunt for it while you have the tech support worker’s ear. The quicker that can figure out your problem, the quicker they can get it fixed.

Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you would like to hear me cover on the Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of the Web Hosting Show.

Web Hosting and Poker

This is something that came to me while I was working on finalizing this week’s show here:

The First Annual Hosting For Hope Charity Poker Tournament, sponsored by Interjuncture, will take place at HostingCon 2006. The proceeds for this tournament will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This idea is simply awesome. HostingCon 2006 is becoming an event that everybody (in the Web hosting world) must attend. I would like to see this whole poker situation tapped and put Online. I’d download it! Also I’d like to see HostingCon upload a lot more of the conference as well, but that is another pandora’s box that won’t get opened right now.

Web Hosting Web Site of the Week

The Web hosting Web site of the week is brought to you by Banners World. Banners World is the number one place to visit to get all your Web site graphics, banners and designs done.

The Web hosting Web site of the week is Site5 Engineering Team Blog.

Now since show number one I have been talking about how much I would like it if there was more blogging done by Web hosts. Well, if you ever needed an example of how to do it right, the Site5 Engineering Team has done it. I’m not even a Site5 customer, and I still think this is amazing. Each member of the team has their own blog as well, which is an even nicer addition. So for the Web hosts out there, this is a great idea you could model yourself after. For the Web hosting customers and clients, here is some more great content to read.

Do you have a Web site that deserves to be the next Web hosting Web site of the week? Make sure you send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com and I’ll try to get it on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.
