Hello I am the Web hosting industry’s media rock star, Mitch Keeler, and welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the one and only voice of the Web hosting world. This show is supported each and every week by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place for Web hosting discussions.
Well last week might have been a bust for the show, but I did get a few other things done. Have you checked out WebHostingShow.com in the past week? It has a new layout, well worth checking out. I wanted to give everything a much cleaner interface, and hopefully I did just that. If not, I’m sure somebody out there will let me know about it.
There was a lot of things going on last week and this week that I might have missed out on. If I missed out on them, then chances are so did you. So sit back, enjoy a cup of your favorite frosty beverage and we will play catch-up together. In all my geeky Web hosting power I have, I deem today to be the first Web Hosting Catch-up Day! Let’s just not get that mixed up with the kind of ketchup you put on your hot dogs.
Have something you want to tell me one on one? Just send me an E-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com with all your feedback, thoughts, suggestions and comments and I’ll be sure to get back with you as soon as possible.

The Planet, EV1 Servers Are Acquired by GI Partners – Netcraft.com
The investment firm GI Partners has purchased a controlling interest in The Planet and EV1Servers, two of the industry’s largest dedicated hosting specialists, according to industry sources. The new owner has lengthy experience in the hosting and data center business.
Mitch’s Take: Wow, talk about your headlines. I don’t see how so many other places missed out on this big story. In my opinion, this could be the Web hosting industry story of the year. “The Planet and EV1Servers will maintain independent operations and identities but may operate with a consolidated balance sheet, according to industry sources, who said customers are unlikely to see any immediate changes.”

DreamHost’s Battle Against Web Hosting Top 10 Lists
Have you heard about DreamHost before? If you haven’t before, I am sure you have by now. One of the reasons I like DreamHost as a company is because they blog.
I’ve been saying for a number of years that more companies should do this, and DreamHost is a perfect example of how well it can be done.
Recently they discussed hosting review Web sites and how corrupt some of them really are. It seems like Web sites like Hosting-Review.com are making tons of cash for placement on stupid “top ten” Web hosts lists.
Now I am sure it is no shock to anybody out there that the Web hosting industry is filled with these sort of “back alley” deals. I see a lot of I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine. For the most part, honesty is out the window.
Now to clear up any rumors about myself, I have never taken one cent for this Web hosting industry related service. I might have made a few deals for advertising and free “plug-age”. I would draw the line though if some Web host offered me an amount of money to say they are the best out there today.
Want my opinion on these top ten lists? If your not sure how honest the company behind them really is, don’t fall for them. It is better to do your own research on a company to see how great they really are. If you need an honest place to check for reviews, go visit FindMyHosting.com. Those guys are legit.
So what is the moral of this story? Money may be able to buy placement on a top ten list, but it doesn’t mean you belong on a top 10 list.
Web Hosting 101
Web hosting 101 is brought to you by Banners World. Do you have any basic information about Web hosting to share? Are you a beginner with a question to ask? Let me know at mitch@mitchkeeler.com.
One of the early jobs I had in Web hosting was doing press releases and writing copy for Web sites. Sure, it doesn’t sound that hard. All you need to do is go on and on till the Web page is filled up, right? Well I can promise you that it is a lot harder than it sounds.
For those of you who might want to make a little extra cash doing some copy writing on the side, check out this link:
Bare Naked App – Writing Copy For The Web site
This is an excellent guide to help you get started on writing copy for any Web site out there. It lets you know which areas you need to focus on, and which ones you shouldn’t focus on so much.
As far as Web hosting goes, you always want to get as much across as possible. You don’t want to ramble on and on though. There is a balance between information and boredom, and it is your job to find that special middle point where everything just makes sense.
No matter if you are a Web host or you are running a Web site about socks, this link should help you out.
