How to Meet Hosting Industry Leaders – Podcast 68

I know when I first entered the Web hosting world on my own, I was a little intimidated by some of the big names I wanted to talk with. There is no reason for all that worry though. On today’s show I’m going to share with you some of my tips on how you can get that conversation going. The Web Hosting Show, podcast 68 is now on the air.

Easyspace Celebrates Summer With More Great Offers

To celebrate the start of summer, Easyspace are delighted to announce a program of great offers for customers. Prices on all hosting accounts have been discounted to give customers a great deal on getting started with their own Web site. Prices now start from just 19.99 per year for hosting. These great prices are available on both Linux and Windows hosting.

Mitch’s Thoughts: Web hosts, I want you to listen up. Right now is as good of a time as any to start rolling out those summer special deals! With school being out, and having America’s children bored and unmotivated, giving them cheap hosting would be a good seed to plant to get some extra income. I know when I was younger, I used to work on my various Web sites a little more, because I had more free time.

Some people might say the colder months might be a better time to target Web hosting customers. From my personal experience though, I ain’t getting outside in no 110 degree weather. What else am I suppose to do for most of the hot afternoon? Think about that.

Meeting Folks in the Hosting Industry

As I said at the top of the show, going into the hosting industry on your own (and trying to make a name for yourself) can be a little intimidating. There is no reason for you to get scared though, because for the most part all these people and companies you want to connect with are normal everyday folks.

Now you always have the classic ways of getting in contact. They would be E-mail, phone, and instant messenger. The only problem with the “classics” here is it is a little hard to find this information right off the bat. The thing to remember in this first encounter is to make a good impression. Don’t waste the person’s time, and get to the point.

There are a few “non-classic” ways of meeting Hosting industry folks as well. Look around at some of the social network Web sites out there today. While I haven’t met too many people in hosting through MySpace, I have seen a plethora of them on Linkedin.com.

The last way to meet folks that I don’t want anybody to forget is HostingCon. This year’s event looks to be even bigger and better than last year’s, and that is a good thing. That means there will be plenty of folks there wanting to make social connections with other folks inside the hosting industry.

After you have talked with a few folks inside of the hosting industry, that will lead to you meeting newer folks. Soon you will have your own contact list of hosting professionals that are more than just a list of E-mails. Some might even become your friends.

Is Your Web Host on MySpace?

So, is your Web host on MySpace? I think this is a big area of promotion that most Web hosts are overlooking. Maybe they don’t know about it, or maybe they think only child molesters get on there. No mater what your reason is for not looking into it, shame on you.

Smaller Web hosts especially could have a lot to gain from setting up a MySpace account. It makes it feel like your are connecting with your customers and clients (who also use the service) on a social level. As I have said before on this podcast, nobody wants to think of their Web host as an imposing figure. People would much rather think of their Web host as a friend.

Last but not least, this is a way for you to spread the word about your services in a new way. Not too many Web hosts have a profile on MySpace, and you could use that to your advantage. Give it a shot, and I can promise you that you will be happy that you did.

Web Hosting Site of the Week

The Web Hosting Site of the Week is brought to you by Ping! Zine. Go check them out and subscribe to the free magazine at PingZine.com.

This week’s pick for Web hosting site of the week is Hot Web Hosting Talk.

Now no, this isn’t the Web Hosting Talk you might be thinking about. Hot Web Hosting Talk is another set of Web hosting forums I ran into while looking for forum sources for Hosting Hoopla.

They have all your standard hosting sub-forums listed: Web Hosting Forum, Dedicated Server Forum, Reseller Hosting Forum and more. The one thing that I really liked though is that they actually acknowledge and put out an RSS feed for people to use. In my honest opinion, not enough Web hosting industry Web sites do that.

So go check them out at HotWebHostingTalk.com and let them know that the Web Hosting Show sent you there.
