Best GoDaddy Ads – Wardrobe Malfunction

Well, the week is over and we are finally ready to name the best GoDaddy commercial of all time. What could be better than the original?

The “Wardrobe Malfunction” ad is what started it all for GoDaddy and this yearly promotion on if their ad will get on the Super Bowl or not.  Even with the controversy of the time put aside – I think it still stands as a nice ad.  Also, it introduced the world to Candice Michelle, and for that – I will always be grateful to this almost two minute spot.

Best GoDaddy Ads – Marketing, Midgets and Boobs

I am torn between two different versions of the same GoDaddy commercial when it comes to number two on my best of the GoDaddy ads list.  This one known as the “marketing” commercial (like many others) had two versions.  One was the “ok for TV” version and the other was the “extended GoDaddy” version.  Here are both of them.

Extended Unrated Version of the “Marketing” Commercial

Now the first one is actually a better commercial that makes a lot of sense.  It gets to the point quickly, like any good commercial should.  Now the second one has a soft spot in my heart because it includes three things I love – marketing, a midget and a lot of eye candy in the form of both Danica Patrick and Candice Michelle.  I just can’t choose!  Well, if this is a list for the best “ads” I guess number one would have to win.

Best GoDaddy Ads – I Own You Dougie

I am going to surprise you, here is a favorite GoDaddy commercial of mine that doesn’t have all that many plastic chest enhancements at all.  Minus one small walkthrough – it doesn’t even have a girl at all.  More creative than some of the others, this one deserves the number three spot on my favorite GoDaddy ads countdown.

Makes me wonder what ever happened to these two guys, Doug and well… the other one.  Seems like GoDaddy wanted to make them a staple as well in the ads, however the GoDaddy girls seem to still get more attention.

Best GoDaddy Ads – Loving Candice Michelle

Now out of all the GoDaddy girls, I have a special post (oh boy do I!) for Candice Michelle.  Not only is she the one that started the craze, but she can also kick some heavy duty rear end in a WWE ring.  So next on my GoDaddy ads list would be the 2008 uncut Super Bowl commercial.

Now you might watch that and say it wasn’t that funny.  I will give you that, but at least it had a point and told a story a little better than most of them have.  In comparison, you have the Basic Instinct knock-off ad which, well – there is nothing funny there.  They just tried to rip on that movie’s most famous seen but do nothing to make it their own.

Best GoDaddy Ads – Danica Patrick in the Buff?

When you mention GoDaddy, you can’t help but mention the Super Bowl ads they do.  For the mainstream audience, that is what they are known for.  So this week I thought I would count down both the good (and the bad) they have delivered over the years.

So where should we start?  How about in the shower?  Starting with number five on my best list would be the Danica Patrick “extended” shower spot from the 2009 Super Bowl.

Overall, it didn’t make me laugh out loud – but didn’t annoy me either, so it belongs on the list.  It is “T and A” meets the three stooges.  So what do you think about this one, was it a hit or a miss?  Share your thoughts, and there will be another look back at the GoDaddy commercials tomorrow.

How to Turn WordPress into What You Need!

WordPress is much more than just your standard blogging script.  It has the ability to do so many thing.  With truckloads of smart developers banging away at it every single day – there have been a lot of creative WordPress powered projects out there.  Here are a few of the ones that have caught my eye and you could install on your own web hosting account.

How to Turn WordPress into a Multiple Blog Network

wordpress-mu Want to launch your own blogging network?  WordPress MU (the MU stands for multiple users) is what you want to look into using.  If you have ever wanted to run multiple blogs off a single install of WordPress, this is definitely what you need.

WordPress MU and WordPress also share 99% of their codebase, so what you can do with one, you can probably do with the other.  So if you are afraid of learning an entirely new CMS – no need! WordPress MU is pretty similar as far as the exterior and the interior goes with WordPress.

How to Turn WordPress into a Micro Blogging Service

prologue-screenshotDid you know, you could take your normal WordPress install, and quickly turn it into a micro blogging service of your very own?  That is where the Prologue theme for WordPress comes into the picture.  It was inspired by services such as Twitter, however has a unique enough look and feel to it that you don’t feel like you are ripping them off.

Best example of this theme in use was to password protect the WordPress install it was skinning, and using it as an internal short memo system inside of a small business.

How to Turn WordPress into a Social Network

buddypress BuddyPress is an add-on to WordPress MU that will give you the ability to turn it into a social network platform, like MySpace or Facebook.  Playing with the demo, I see a lot of promise here.  You have groups, blogs, member pages, news and more.  The possibilities are endless.

Everything is still in beta, and in the demo phases – however, in the big picture, I think that BuddyPress will be one of the WordPress tools we will be talking a lot about.  With it, anybody can launch a social network for their friends or for the area of expertise they share.  I always wanted a web hosting social network.

As you can see, WordPress can be taken into a number of different direction, when it the right hands of the right developers and designers.  We didn’t even get into their forum script, bbPress.  By far, WordPress might be one of the easiest platforms to use these days.  What do you think?

What is Domain Parking?

41Pjfc 2PVL._SL500_AA280_ The domain name business, which is a distant cousin at least to the web hosting business, has a lot of confusing terms of its own.  One of those, that might be hard to wrap your mind around is domain name parking.  What is it?

Domain parking usually refers to a domain name that has been pointed at a single web page, that may have a “coming soon” or “under construction” message on it.  It is a hold place for a domain name you might not be using right now, but you still don’t want to error out when somebody tries to visit it.

Many domain name registers offer this service, because it can be a way to monetize.  For an example, let’s say I have a really good domain name,  but don’t have the time to develop it right now.  I park the domain name with my domain name register, and they let me put a few ads up there to make money.

The domain name is likely to get a lot of type-in traffic, so for the time being, that domain name will be making me a little money with no effort until I have the time to develop a web site for it.

So, as you can see, domain name parking does have it’s practical uses.
