Peer 1’s Growing Pains Ads Get Rolling

The guys behind a great video for Peer 1 contacted me yesterday about said video. Now usually I don’t like to do shameless advertising for just anybody, but this is an example of what I would like to see from more hosting companies out there. Final thoughts? Funny, well produced and I’m just waiting in anticipation for the next.

5 Ways to Pay for Your Hosting Account

Running a web site, on any topic under the sun, does not have to put you in the red and eat up all of your money. There are several alternative paths you can take when it comes to paying for your web hosting account.

Reseller Hosting

With a reseller web hosting account, you can earn a little extra income on the side reselling a web host’s services to your friends, family and clients. With the money made, you can turn around and pay your own hosting bills so you can get out of the red and back into the green.

Affiliate Account

Many web hosts out there today offer affiliate accounts where you place a link on your web site, a person clicks through it and buys hosting from them, and you get credit for the sale. Might not be the easiest way of making money but with the high payouts some web hosts give you might only need to sell to one or two a month. Read more »

7 Ad Design Tips and Tricks

Running a successful ad campaign isn’t an easy thing to do. You have to do a lot of experimenting and a lot of trial and error before you find something that works best for you. Both Web hosts and any other person on the Web today can run an advertisement so here are my top 7 ad design tips and tricks.

Seven Ad Design Tips to Learn From and Try Out

1. Decide if you want to keep it serious or make it a little zany. Serious ads hold a lot of respect, but funny or creative ads might lead to more clicks.

2. If your not a well known name inside of the business that you are advertising to, include your domain name on your ad somewhere so at least if the people don’t click on your ad they now have that domain in the back of their head.

3. Try something different. Most Web hosting ads have a picture with a server on it and the world “unlimited” plastered all over it. You could go down that route, but try something new as well.

4. Experiment with four or five different ads and see how they do. You might even want to try more than that if you have the cash to do so. This way you can see which one works best.

5. Talk to and target your audience. If you are running and ad on a Web development forum for a Web hosting company, you could focus the user on the fact that after they learn the basics, they can come to you for the hosting. Now the only hard part is to figure out a way to put that into a 160 x 600 ad space.

6. Put up some text link ads as well and try them out. Graphical ads are highly ignored these days because people are used to them and tune them out on Web pages. Text link ads give you yet another alternative and space to try to capture somebody’s attention.

7. Don’t ask me to punch a monkey, midget, baby, Paris Hilton or George Bush.

Marketing Your Site with StumbleUpon

When it comes to getting eyeballs or new clients to your Web hosting company or any Web site out there at all it seems like everything under the sun has been tried once. If you haven’t gotten good results with other ad services I have one I want you to try. Did you know that StumbleUpon offers advertising services?

For those of you who might not know what StumbleUpon is all about, it is a service that allows users to view Web sites that are based on a similar interest randomly. You can think of it as channel surfing and Web browsing mixed together. It is a great way to find Web sites that you might have missed if you only pay attention to the popular stuff out there today.

Well with StumbleUpon Ads, you get to pay a little money to target your Web site towards people looking for that type of content. I recently started an ad campaign via WebHostingShow.com on StumbleUpon and I have gotten promising results. Of course the more you pay in, the more visitors you will be getting. My bar is set a little low right now for testing purposes - but I could see myself using this down the road to bring in new listeners to the podcast here.

They give you some statistical information as well, like how many people have voted up or voted down your Web site link and how many people have viewed it for each day of your campaign.

So if you are look for a new way to bring in new visitors, I would definitely give StumbleUpon Ads a shot. For Web hosts - this could lead to some new sales and some new eyeballs on your Web site. Don’t let that fool you though. I could see just about any Web site out there getting a boost in visitors from this Online tool.

Revision3 and GoDaddy Deal

Taking a peak at what is going on in the Web hosting industry’s news division, the WHIR is reporting:

Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy announced on Tuesday it has expanded its sponsorship advertising agreement with Internet television network Revision3 to include all of Revision3 Internet television shows.

I am happy to see that GoDaddy realizes this is a big market that has an audience and it just looking for somebody to toss money at them. Of course, since Revision3 has a few more A-listers and Web celebs, I bet they are getting a better deal that the one GoDaddy tossed my way a few weeks back.

All and all though, I think this is a very good thing for Web content. It is also a big check mark in the ol’ alternative advertising world as well.

“We’ve been happy with our podcast advertising,” says Barb Rechterman, executive VP at Go Daddy. “Promoting Revision3’s new TV network is a natural extension for us. These guys are onto something big. At Go Daddy, we recognize the importance of innovation and the folks at Revision3 are leading the pack.”

This is an audience that is captivated enough to download a show and watch it. They are not going to mind one or two ads jumping in there from time to time. I think it will be only a matter of time before you see more companies like GoDaddy jumping in for this type of marketing and advertising.
