Easter Break and New Segment Archives

new-segment-archiveWell this most recent Easter break kicked my butt as far as time goes, so afraid my time to do a podcast this week was cut a little short.  However I was able to go through the segment archive for all the past segments we have done on this show and organize them a ‘bit more.

This is one complaint out of many I hope to give worked on this next week or so.  As you can see on WebHostingShow.com I have things divided up into:

If you have any other suggestions for the podcast or the podcast web site, please feel free to let me know.

Hosting Bookmarks Rocks!

Need your hosting news, links and reading with a ‘bit of a twist? Now I have covered other social hosting sites before – but I think the one that gets it right thus far is HostingBookmarks.com. The main pitch and reason for HostingBookmarks.com to exist is to “share hosting experiences” or at least that is what the graphic on the front page would have you believe.

There is much more than your average social voting link site here however. They have categories for just about every hosting topic under the sun. General hosting news, hosting experiences, e-mail, domains, tutorials, events… the list could go on and on.

Hosting Bookmarks, News, Links and Resources!

Here is a little more information about them by them:

Hosting Bookmarks (HB) is a place where anyone involved in web hosting is invited to shared knowledge and experience. We welcome professionals to bookmark good content and consumers to share their experience with various products, services and companies. Our objective is to organize various web hosting related topics and knowledge into a database, and to build a valuable reference network based on social communication.

They also invite anybody and everybody who is interested to sign up and give it a shot. I’d love to see this web site take off in popularity so I am inviting you all to bookmark it and use it often. The great thing about a social hosting tool like this is the more people we can bring into the fold the better it will become.

Interesting New Hosting Sites

ResourcesOn a day to day basis I get a lot of hosting related links sent my way to review and check out. Here are some of the latest hosting related web sites that have caught my eye and got my attention.

TheWebHostBiz.com
This web site wants to be your guide to starting and running a successful web hosting business. Whether you are just starting out, or you have been around for some time, TheWebHostBiz.com features the tools, applications, service providers and resources that will make your web host business a success.

ServerADay.com
Well the short story for this web site given on the web site itself is “We think all those ‘deal-a-day’ websites out there are cool so we thought what the heck. We have something to sell, so why not give it a shot.” Also being a division of OLM means you don’t have to worry about any shady deals coming forth.

iWeb’s Server Warehouse Clearance Deals
This is another server deal finder that will allow you to hunt for a server of your own. You can list by price and “time of posting” for your deals. The inclusion of an RSS feed for the deals is also a winner. This looks like a great new way for the iWeb people to market themselves to the bargain hunters.

Remember you can always send me your hosting related links at mitch@mitchkeeler.com. New or old, I always love to check them all out.

What is Your Hosting Company Worth?

Host Buyout

When you ask a Web host what his or her company is worth, many of them would probably say it is priceless. That is like asking somebody how much they’d give for one of their kids for Pete’s sake. Unfortunately though that doesn’t exactly transition well in to real world information.

That is where a Web site like HostBuyout.com comes into play. They allow you to both buy and sell Web hosting companies. Of course, this isn’t exactly cheap – so don’t think your going to buy something to keep you busy on a Sunday afternoon. This will be a big investment.

Here is a little more information about the Web site from the HostingTech.com:

Aditz, a business brokerage firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions in the Web hosting industry, announced it launched its HostBuyout.com web site and is now accepting new clients. The company’s services include business valuations, buyer discovery and recruitment, buyer screening, document services, and escrow services.

They give you a pretty neat free tool as well to do an estimate of how much your company might be worth as well. So next time your looking to purchase a Web hosting company or get out of the game – HostBuyout.com is definitely a place to check out to make it happen.

Review a Host and Win a Xbox 360

Now it is not often that I pimp somebody else’s contest here on the Web Hosting Show, but I figured this time – since the reward and chances to win sounded so great, I would give it a try.

The folks over at WebHostingUnleashed.com are giving away an Xbox 360. What do you have to do to win? All you need to do is submit a review of your Web hosting company during the month of March!

Here are a few more contest details from the Web Hosting Unleashed directly:

Darn Those CentOS Hackers

Now I guess this could be considered your entertainment from the Web hosting industry this week.

Sure, inside of the Web hosting business you get asked questions that are considered by people “in the know” as pretty lame and stupid. We all do our best to inform and educate those people the best that we can though.

The thing that bothers me is when stupid people pretend that they are smart. That is when somebody can get into some real trouble.

+ Link to the YouTube video for the RSS readers out there!

The important thing to remember is to always do your homework before you start calling people out.

To read more about this funny situation, check out the Lunartics blog. That is the first place I found this excellent story.
